Our goal is to provide consistent, effective, efficient, professional, and friendly services to the citizens of Grimes County and all those who utilize this office.
The office of district clerk is created by the Texas Constitution, Article V, Section 9. The district clerk is an elected official whose term of office is four years.
The district clerk provides support of the district and county court at law courts in the county. The clerk is registrar, recorder, and custodian of all court pleadings, instruments, and papers that are part of any cause of action in any civil and criminal district court and in any family county court at law. The district clerk indexes and secures all court records, collects filing fees, and handles funds held in litigation and money awarded to minors.
The district clerk is responsible for filing all felony criminal cases following indictment by the Grand Jury.
All civil law suits in the 12th and 506th Judicial District Courts are filed with the district clerk. This office also files family matters for the County Court at Law including all divorces, parent-child relationships, adoptions, name changes, all Office of the Attorney General, and Child Support Enforcement Division cases. Fees are collected for the filing of new cases and motions and for the issuance of all citation, notices, temporary restraining orders, protective orders, subpoenas, writs, abstracts of judgment, orders of sale, etc.
The district clerk is the officer of the Court in charge of the jury selection process. Petit Jurors are randomly selected from a database that combines information from Grimes County voter registration lists and Texas Department of Public Safety identification certificates.
Naturalization records dating back to the mid 1800’s may be found in this office.

TO ALL PERSONS FILING A DIVORCE OR OTHER LAWSUIT USING DOUCUMENTS THAT ARE NOT PREPARED BY AN ATTORNEY
Deputy Clerks in this office are prohibited from giving advice, answering legal questions, or giving instructions regarding divorce or any other Court proceedings. We cannot answer questions you may have about correctness of papers you wish to file or procedures to obtain a Court decision. For the above stated reason, we advise you to consult an attorney or seek legal counsel if you have any questions or are unsure as to what you need to do. If you pursue a legal action without an attorney representation, we will file documents you present to us and collect the filing fee at the time of filing. Regardless of the outcome of your court hearing, fees are not refundable. We preform our clerk duties in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas. We do not process documents in accordance with any rules or instructions other than the governing laws and signed Court Orders.
