Update Existing Voter Registration Online via Secretary of State

After you submit your voter registration application, a voter registration certificate (your proof of registration) will be mailed to you within 30 days.

Check your certificate to be sure all information is correct. If there is a mistake, make corrections on the spaces provided on the back and return it to our office immediately.

You will automatically receive a new certificate every two years if you haven’t moved from the address at which you are registered.

To request a replacement certificate, fill out the Replacement Certificate Form, print it, and mail it to our office.

Suspense means that the Voter Registrar is not certain of your residential address. If the Voter Registrar has reason to believe that a voter’s current residence is different from that indicated on the registration records, then the Voter Registrar shall deliver to the voter a written confirmation notice requesting confirmation of the voter’s current residence. When a Notice of Address Confirmation is sent, the voter automatically is put on suspense. As a common practice, a Notice of Address Confirmation is sent (and an individual is placed on suspense) when:

1. The voter’s registration certificate has been returned as non-deliverable;
2. A Jury Summons is returned as non-deliverable; or
3. Any mailing that was sent to the voter was returned as non-deliverable.
4. The voter registrar has received information indicating the voter no longer resides at the address on the voter’s record.

A voter whose status is on suspense is eligible to vote in an election provided that the voter completes a Statement of Residence either when voting by mail or at the polls prior to voting (within the same county as the voter’s current registration). If the voter has moved to a new county, the voter may complete a Limited Ballot application during Early Voting at the main early voting polling place in their current county of residence. A voter may also complete a Voter Registration Application to update his/her address prior the Registration Cutoff deadline for any election and send the newly updated application to the Voter Registrar in the county in which the voter resides.

Did you receive any one of the following document types?

 

• Address Confirmation Form
• Voter Registration Certificate

If yes,

1. Write the voter’s name (if not pre-printed) on the form.
2. Write “deceased” across the front of the form.
3. Sign your name.
4. Record your relationship to the voter beside your name (i.e. husband, wife, son, daughter, etc.).
5. Return the notice to the Elections Department.

The voter registration record can now be cancelled.

If no,

Send a sworn statement to the Elections Department that the person is deceased.

1. Include the name of the voter, registration address, and date of birth.
2. Sign your name, and record your relationship to the voter beside your name (i.e. husband, wife, son, daughter, etc.)
3. Return the notice to the Elections Department.

The voter registration record can now be cancelled.

Or,

Send a certified copy of the Certificate of Death to the Elections Department.

Include in your correspondence:

1. name of deceased voter,
2. voter’s residential address on the registration,
3. voter’s date of birth, and
4. your name and residential address.

The voter registration record can now be cancelled.
