Grimes County Law Library
The Grimes County Law Library was established in 1970s with a small collection of print materials for the County judges and legal community. The Law Library was moved in 2022 to the be centrally located in the Grimes County Historic Courthouse, and the Law Library website was created in 2025 to help connect the Grimes County patrons with legal resources. The Grimes County Commissioners' Court is the governing entity of the law library under Texas Local Government Code, Title 10 Section 323.021, and the law library is funded by civil court fees. The Grimes County Law Library is under the purview of the County Attorney's Office, which staffs and maintains the Law Library.
The Law Library is a research library. Law Library functions as a public resource center, serving the legal research and information needs of self-represented litigants, legal professionals, the judiciary, and county and other governmental officials of Grimes County. The Law Library collection is focused on the area of Texas law, United States statutes, and cases. Books and materials may not be taken out of the Law Library.
The law of other states can be accessed through LexisNexis Patron Access. A computer is available to conduct research using various online legal databases; and to access the internet to search other legal sites. Wireless access is available.
The Law Library attendants CANNOT give legal advice, recommend or lead patrons to answers to their legal issues, interpret the law, or recommend to patron what legal information needs to be placed in a legal document.
Grimes County does not provide legal referrals, so please contact the State Bar of Texas at 800-252-9690 for a referral.
